What Hail and Wind Do to a Hill Country Roof

Hail bruises. Wind creases. Both leak months later, right about when the claim window closes.

Hail fractures the mat inside a shingle and knocks off the granules that protect it from UV. The roof looks fine from the driveway; the bruise opens over the following months and leaks. Wind lifts shingle tabs, breaks the seal and creases them along the nail line; a creased shingle leaks in the next rain even when it lies flat again.

Metal roofs take hail differently: cosmetic dents on the panels, which most policies treat as a cosmetic issue, but also dented vents, damaged sealant at penetrations and loosened fasteners, which are functional. We know the difference and document accordingly.

  • Circular bruises and granule loss on shingles
  • Creased, lifted or missing shingles along ridges and rakes
  • Dented soft metals: vents, flashing, gutters, AC fins
  • Dented panels and damaged sealant on metal roofs
  • Cracked boots and skylight seals
  • Debris impact from limbs

How We Handle Storm Damage

Speed matters after a storm. So does doing it properly.

Free inspection, fast

After a storm we prioritize inspections across Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch and Kendall County, usually within 24 to 48 hours.

Adjuster-grade documentation

Chalk-marked test squares, photos of every slope and soft metal, a written summary in the format adjusters use.

We meet the adjuster

On the roof with them so nothing is left off the scope.

Emergency tarping

If the roof is open, we tarp first and inspect second.

Repair or replace, honestly

Isolated damage is a repair. Widespread damage is documented for replacement.

Full warranty

Storm work gets our workmanship and manufacturer warranties, not a rush-job exception.

Beware the Trucks From Out of Town

After every big hail event, crews with out-of-county plates canvass Fair Oaks Ranch and Boerne with clipboards.

Some do fine work. Some vanish before the first warranty call, and some offer to waive your deductible, which has been a criminal offense in Texas since 2019. We’ve been here since 2010, we’re fully insured, and we’ll still answer the phone in five years. Before you sign anything at your door, get a second inspection. Ours is free and the photos are yours either way.

Storm Damage FAQ, Boerne

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

Check what you can see: dents on gutters, downspouts, mailboxes and AC fins. If soft metals are dented, the roof took the same hits. The only reliable answer is someone on the roof; our inspection is free.

How long do I have to file a hail claim in Texas?

Most policies require reporting within one to two years of the storm date, some shorter. Check your duties-after-loss section. Document early.

Does hail damage a metal roof?

Cosmetically, sometimes, and many policies exclude cosmetic-only damage. Functionally less often: dented vents, damaged sealant and loosened fasteners are what we document.

Can you waive my deductible?

No, and no one legally can. Since 2019 it’s a criminal offense in Texas. A roofer offering to eat your deductible is a warning sign.

What if my claim is denied or underpaid?

We compare the adjuster’s scope to our documentation and request a re-inspection where items are missing. Many denied claims are reversed with proper evidence.
